Ormesby Hall - Georgian Mansion

We traveled along a busy road in Middlesbrough to Ormesby Hall gate. As we passed through the gate, then drove a mile to the Hall.

suddenly we went back in time several hundred years with rolling fields of wheat and not a sight or sound of the city.

After traveling about a mile through the peaceful fields, we could see the Hall. It had been lived in up until Ruth Pennyman died in 1988.  She had given it to the National Trust to preserve.

The Pennyman family obtained their weath from tenants who rented the farm land. The Hall was built in the 1700's for the home of the newly married Pennyman. It passed down through the family through the years. When there were no male heirs, a daughter would inherit the estate if her husband would take the Pennyman surname.

The Jacobean house was the original home, but was not suitable to the taste of the new bride. Now it houses model railways which are incredible in their intricacies.

We enjoyed rambling through the gardens.

Many of the delphiniums were over six feet tall.

Ormesby Hall-a lovely afternoon out.
