Holy Island

Holy Island-Lindisfarne-is the seat of Christianity in England dating from AD 635 when St Aidan established a monastory here.  It is just about as far north as our mission extends. You need to check the tide charts in order to visit. We were in luck. The tide was low from 9:45 to 5:00.  You cross the causeway when the tide is out otherwise it becomes an island.  We walked through the little town and visited the castle.  The visitor's center told the story of the Viking raiders.

We enjoyed a one mile walk from the small town center to the castle.

The tide is out.

A view from the castle overlooking the town and beach.
