Our first stop was Derwent Water Lake. There was not a cloud in the sky all day.
Wild blue bells covered the hillsides.
Grasmere Lake
The village of Grasmere is where William Wordsworth wrote much of his best poetry.
Wordsworth lived here at Dove Cottage from 1799 to 1808.
This chimney caught our attention.
The top stones on the stone walls would identify the builder.
We had a picnic beside the River Rydal then started our walk on White Moss Common.
The walk took us across the river, through the forest, along side the stone fence,
through the gate,
up the hill,
to see the view (Wordsworth wrote about this island)
and back down again,
where we recrossed the river for this wonderful picture.
We finished off the afternoon with fish and chip in Ambleside on Lake Windermere- largest of the 16 lakes in the Lake District.
