Roseberry Topping

This is Roseberry Topping-the only "mountain" in the area. The green you see is ferns about 18" high.
As a small boy, James Cook climbed to the top of Roseberry Topping and seeing the ocean was inspired to become an explorer.
We climbed to the top with some another hiker -Neal and his 9 year old son Joseph.
He took our picture at the top, and we gave his a family pass along card.
Ancient Shooting Shelter at the bottom
Our climb to the top was straight up. It reminded me of climbing Y mountain, but straight up.  The view was sensational. You could see the North Sea, Middlesbough, Billingham, and Hartlepool.  Someone at the top showed us a winding path down. Note the wild foxgloves. Near the bottom the Queen Anne's Lace was fantastic. It is prolific along the roadways.
